This has been the best thing I’ve ever done which I know I have said multiple times but it’s the absolute truth. My mom’s best friend is mixed race South-African and in a mixed relationship and my dad’s best friend is Jamaican so the project has had so much resonance with me personally. Even hearing first hand oral testimonies of the contributors struggles but also their strength has been an utter privilege. You feel the emotion more through hearing history than reading about it and this has been a brand new experience for me.

Having the trust placed in me to design this scheme of work has been so humbling and I’m so grateful that the team have believed in me enough to do such a thing. The thought of these session plans ending up in schools is so emotional. I never thought when I signed up and had the initial meeting with the Colour of Love team back in October 2020 that I’d be given such opportunities.

About Community

We celebrate and empower Nottinghamshire Mixed-race communities. We do this by platforming interracial Black and White relationships, and the social education that stems out of the personal experiences borne out of them.
